~Even in one of the most notorious region of Equestria, something great comes out of it

One of the better portrait work I've done, and I've happy about the lighting. I think I'm getting the hang of colour and value. Well, can't be complacent and all, so I've still gotta practice.

Starting off, this is a superb and phenomenal piece of artwork. From the shimmer of the light to the strands of hair on her mane, it give off a presence powerful enough to earn an insta-click from the preview image.

I believe the things that are most well done here are the approach in style and the lighting effects on the accessories and surroundings you've set in place. The conceptual and rough expressionistic quality in the graphic nature of the foliage in the moss and plant life in contrast with the more refined and exact qualities executed on the character make for an intirguing relationship in the stylistic quality of this piece. There are areas that are quick and implied and ares that are refined to exact details, which gives it a relaxed feel to the piece by not stressing over every detail to the grains of dust.

The lighting, if I'm too assume is coming from a swarm of lightning bugs, may be a tad too bright in my opinion. The mood here is almost a "dusk" kind of setting. With the deep black/blue of the background, I feel its either supposed to be night or its just very dark in there. I find Zecora's character very intriguing, and maybe toning down on the light and emphasizing the shadow across her features could have accentuated that, building on the mystery of the setting and what she's doing there.

I already praised your style, but I feel something else to add is the painterly quality of the layering. Its almost clearly visible here to see your process in your production. I get a very back-to-front feel from this and it also adds to the illusion of depth in play. Something I think may have gotten a bit flubbled in the execution however may be that the little grass blotches accidentally overlap some of the more foreground blades of grass. Also, there is a brown spot behind her back left hoof that is giving me a vertical reading that is counteracting the grass around it. I'm not sure what's going on there.

But in totality, you did do an incredibly fantastic job on this piece and it deserves as much love and limelight as it can get. You've got mine and easily a new watcher to add to the list. Instant :+favlove: and I wish you the best of luck in your coming pieces!

Grats on getting a piece to be featured on ponies plus!

As a pixel artist who's seriously starting to step up his game and try new styles that allows for greater detail, it's great to see pieces that I can look up to when I want to figure out how to turn those simple vectors to something pretty detailed to make the most out of my medium.

Getting the hang of color and value? I personally wonder what happens if the green color of the hanging foliage would be changed to something that blends into he background a bit more, so it does not distract too much from our subject (my eyes keep wandering off to them. grrr) . For everything else, there's nothing much I can say; everything else seems pretty right to me. :)

The lighting is pretty interesting. There's something to this mystical quality of it that has really grabbed my attention. The blue sparkles in the corner seems to be very interesting, and it really makes me stop and wonder what they are. I would think the piece would make more intuitive sense if a little blue was added to her neck and ear rings though, especially in areas where you've chosen to darken.

However, the yellow light source is starting to throw me off when I spend time thinking about it. Her back left leg tells me that the light source is behind her. Her earring tells me that it's to the side. The shading of the ground is also throwing me off as it doesn't seem to correspond to that light source correctly despite the bushes in the background doing that just fine. Her neck rings also doesn't make complete sense as it suggests a more frontal light source. Eh, I also screw up with somewhat incoherent shading on my own works.

Less coherent shading or not, this is still a great piece that can grab people's attention. I need more people to look up to so I can keep my ego in check, so you have earned a watcher.

The lighting in this picture is, just perfect. How did you manage to get such beautiful contrast on zecora's body? I think this is one of my favourite mlp pieces ever! Just beautiful. Can I ask how long it took you to do? and if possible how you build up the texture/shading on the body? I'm teaching myself and any advice would help me greatly!
