My submission for the WLF t-shirt design competition. Rating starts next week I think, so if you like this and want it to be available on a shirt, be sure to vote for it! :D

Practising lighting. I'm starting to understand it better. Twilight colour scheme gave me a headache.

It is interesting to see various artists attempt to give ponies some form when there is no such third dimension ever given to them. I personally have my own troubles trying to add a third dimension to make the most out of my own medium when no show-accurate style would ever do this for me. A fun trick I learned trying to figure that out though... is to imagine looking at your subject from the perspective of the light source, and shade areas that I do not see, and it becomes much easier to figure things out from there, so what I end up doing is using a second reference to do this.

Looking at Twilight's face, however, we can see the highlights hug the top edges. What this ends up doing, however, is suggesting that her face is basically flat like a fish (well she is floating around... maybe she is a fish floating in the water? =p) If we were to let the highlighted areas cover more of her face, her head would appear much rounder.

Other points I could bring up about shading...The top of her nose might also be darkened as that area it is very angled from the main light source. Her tail was oddly done as a blue tinge on her hind leg is definitely there because of a light to the right, but the other leg (which by the way is bigger than the other) seems to disregard that a little. On the left side of the tail, we see two lighted areas that I believe should be connected as one.

Other than that, I believe this would have a great shirt anyways. This surreal look already dos a great job of grabbing my attention. Makes me want to attempt something like that myself.
What do you think?

It's beautiful, but it looks a little like Twilight is drowning.... :(

I still love it anyways.

Seriously is there some way for me to learn how to be this awesome, I really really really wish I could have someone who knows how to use photoshop show me how to hold my pen correctly, and what settings and brushes to use.
Because I'm getting really tired of my pictures always looking so flat in comparison to all these pictures that seem really rich

Tutorials and speedpaint video on yotube are where I got my sources from.

I also experiment with the brushes during my free time to see what they can achieve.
